Contemporary Impressionist Ann Sweeney won awards at a number of local art shows including the South Carolina State Fair, Crooked Creek Art League and Seven Oaks Art League.
As a young military wife, Ann toyed with painting taking occasional workshops and developing her natural talent. In the early 80’s she began painting more seriously and by 1984 she earned a degree in Illustration at Palomar College in Southern California. She worked as a graphic artist and illustrator for a book publisher for a number of years. In the late 80’s a serious health crisis waylaid her art work and took her down another path. She did not begin painting again until 2013 when she joined the Crooked Creek Art League, where she became an active member encouraging other artists and winning a number of awards. The last and most notable of which was Best in Show in CCAL's 2019 Annual Juried Show for her painting "Somewhere in Sudan" of a Sudanese Refugee she met while on a Mission Trip several years prior. Ann was in a very productive period of her painting career when she was suddenly taken ill and sadly passed away after brief bout with lung cancer in July of 2020.
